2005 Explorer engine fan won't turn off

Asked by Aug 30, 2016 at 04:58 PM about the 2005 Ford Explorer XLT Sport V6 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The engine fan in my 2005 explorer xlt 4.0 v6 does
not shut off.  It does not matter the temperature
outside, the fan is always ALWAYS engaged.  I
know this is better than the flip side but I want to
make sure something isn't on the way out that I can
prevent.  The only thing I have thought to check is
the fan clutch relay which is fine.

How did you check the relay? It could be sticking closed. Swap it out with one of the others and see if problem moves. Otherwise you'll have to trace the problem, could be bad engine coolant sensor, ECM/PCM...

Thanks Ken, I did in fact swap the relay out with another relay. Maybe I will look into the coolant sensor. Thanks again for the quick response!
