Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've a 2006 Ford Explorer Xlt .4wd.I'd bought it problay
6months ago & it was told to me ,the mechanic that
worked there .Was the previous owner.I'd purchased it
As is ,because of the reassurance that it was
serviced.Had I done my homework ,I'd have researched
that there's a long paper trail of problems with the
transmission.Long story short .Last week we'd had a
storm&I'd gotten stuck in own drive way.I'll be honest
&say I rocked the Hell outta it.Well ,next day got in put I
to reverse&it barely moved.spinning as if it was on
iceĀ¬.&then no accceloration in drive. After Messing
with it.I put into3rd.gear&it drives.I can go into drive
when moving,as soon as slowing down,or stopping
Has to go back into 3rd.to start out..Sorry for the Novel
..Of course I'm a female & we tend to ramble on...Sorry
guys ..But any advice would be appreciated .Thanks.

Make sure you get a code scanner that does OBDII, CAN, and ABS. A lot of transmission shops will charge you a service fee to retrieve codes (~$75 - 100), so buying your own code reader makes sense, however the better ones can be $200 or more. You could also try Autozone or Advance for a free code scan.

Thanks for your help ,I appreciate your input.I'd not thought about the CAN&ABS.I just figured id better check it out4myself,God knows there's solenoids, sensors, band adjustment, servo,Etc.So ty4 the heads up with scanner.I'll try AutoZone. (Wasnt sure of they'd do read on it ,w/o check engine light.?)Anyhow,"Thanks, its good to have a forum to go, with so much enthusiasm&help.

Autozone is an expensive place to buy a scanner lol, Harbor Freight is cheaper, or Amazon or even Walmart has them.
