Rear quarter scoop on 429s

Asked by Feb 03, 2013 at 08:15 PM about the 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429

Question type: General

I see rear quarter scoops on 69 & 70 boss 429s, I know boss 302 neither year had them any info on this

They were brake cooling ducts.

That's not what I was asking , it seems odd to have both years with or without vents, I don't believe it was an option in 69 & 70 bosses , I was wondering if ford shipped to kar kraft a mix of body styles for the 429

carrole shelby liked rear scoops so did ferruccio !

They absolutely were NOT brake cooling ducts. There was a mix of scoops and no scoops because cars were pulled off the assembly line in small batches for shipping to Kar kraft to have the chassis modified and engines installed. The intention was to make only 500 so they could be homologated as "production cars" for road racing -- which they never were, because the Ford Torinos and mercury cyclones did the honours.
