Question type: General

I have a 1976 mustang  with a CD a C
panel has three levers,  The first lever is
vertical that is the fan control  next are the
two horizontal lepers the first lever is
temperature control only two settings
warm and cold and the last lever is the
setting which  consists of the off switch
economy AC high and low heat and
defroster,
Anytime I cut all the AC or attempt to
defrost my windows you will hear a click it
sounds like it would cut on but it does not
either it just won't work or the car will stall
and cut off,  or when attempting to use the
defrost there will be screeching with a puff
of smoke.  Please help me!

Might be the AC compressor is faulty from the screeching. The puff of smoke on the inside of the windshield is probably the heater core is leaking.
