No fuel pump pressure/bad wiring

Asked by Feb 27, 2016 at 09:43 AM about the 1988 Ford Mustang GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just bought a 1988 Foxbody Mustang GT,
8.0 and it was sitting for about three years
before I bought it. It has bad wiring, just put
in two new plugs, worked the old gas out,
and the battery keeps a good charge. It
seems to have a vacuum leak but it doesn't
seem to have even 5 lbs of pressure in the
fuel pump system. This causes it to shift
and jump. Is my problem a vacuum leak or
something else?

You showed a 8 liter motor, is this some kind of custom job? 5 lbs of fuel pressure will not feed a 8 liter motor for long, Might work for an idle but that's it. Get the wiring fixed first, you could be loosing voltage the pumps and who knows what else. Then tackle the vacuum leaks.

Can a truck run if the fuel pump is not seated just right what I mean is if the fuel pump is only half way on the metal mount and not all the way down.
