Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had just recently purchased an A4. The previous owner pointed that the
check engine is on regardless of VW technician cleared from any faults
during OBD scan. during startup the center panel would prompt OK! but the
check engine is always on. also, i have an alarm for faulty rear left signal
light but goes away when i toggle the light switches from on to auto to
manual then back to auto. actually the faulty light buld signal comes on and
off. is it related to check engine?

A stored fault code will show a check engine light meaning something is wrong. Merely clearing the code doesn't fix the problem. So have the code read, fix the problem, clear the code and the check engine light should stay off. That bulb problem could what brings on the check engine light. See what the fault code says. You might be lucky.

Never buy a car with the Check Engine Light on!!! The seller probably saddled you with some expensive repairs.

@Hornet_2497 im planning on purchasing an OBD so that i can immediately check the code. would that be okay? and how much does it usually cost for code reading? i have been warned to be wise when dealing with auto mechanics as they often require you to pay for repairs that isnt really the problem so youll end up paying for what it not meant to solve the issue. to add, i checked last night about the rear left signal light if its not functioning well, i tried turning the signals one at a time and both were ok. i got worried if ever i would drive at night that i might get stopped for a broken light bulb. but it turned out to be operating well. as i said, i experienced it myself turning the knobs to diff selections and the bulb error goes away.

also, we bought it from Kamloops and drove it back to Prince George the same day we got it. 6hours straight drive it was okay, no fuzz and unusual sound, nothing out of ordinary. we drove 650+km with a full tank on as provided by the seller we got here with 1/4 left. cruising at an average of 100kph with 150kph probably tops. temp range is around 70, 90 if were overspeeding but immediately cools down when i regulate my speed. refilled the tank with 45L to full tank btw when we got back here.

Owning a OBD2 scanner is a good idea. You can pick up a code reader for as little as $10 on Ebay. I've seen this same one at WalMart for $40 and it does everything, it even includes a CD and a booklet listing every code. Dealers are charging a diagnostic fee of $40-$100 even if they don't fix it. You can Google the numbers for more information. The auto parts here in the USA will scan you codes for free, hoping you may chose to buy your parts there.

Hi, All. I have bought an OBD sensor from xtool for audi here's the fault records: 000665 Boost Pressure Regulation Control Range Not Reached sporadic and 008577 Performance Malfunction in Cooling System Short Circuit to another valve. has anyone encountered this before? and what might be the solution for this or needed repair before i take it down to a mechanic to avoid being ripped off from unnecessary repairs? thanks
