Growling , klunk at low speed acceleration AFTER the tire place installed a new tire
I recently replaced a tire w a far more aggressive
all terrain tire on a 2007 ford explorer 4wd w
advance trac. I replaced front passenger wheel
bearing and outer tie rod . All other parts seem find
. We moved the all terrain tire to the back and did
alignment that day I started having issues .... a
growl and thunk at slow low speed acceleration
one it gets past this everything is perfect . Never
did this before the one all terrain tire . It sounds like
a 4wd coming out hard . No codes , no lights
coming on . Tires are all similar tread depth but
this newly replaced tire is the only all terrain .
Could this be messing with sensors and trying 6o
engage 4wd on demand ? Also only does it on
So you only put one different tire on? That would explain the problem. An AWD or 4x4 vehicle needs to have all 4 tires close to the same circumference or you will get binding and drivetrain issues. The differentials and vehicles sensors/computers are trying to compensate for the difference. Replace the other 3 with the same tire as the new one, and get some cash for the older ones.
Thank you ! That was my thought and they all tell me that it doesn't matter because it is the same "size" tire .... but from what I can tell it could trigger the system to try to engage because that tire "grabs" while the less aggessive tread doesn't ... . But I'm a girl and we'll u know lol
Same size between different tires and manufacturers can vary. Also new tread vs old tread will be enough to give you problems.

Do not keep driving it like this or you will bust the rear axel or if in 4wd the transfer case. All tires must be identical.
I kept the one they pulled off so I'm going to put it back on . I bumped a curb and damaged the sidewall and can't afford to put new ones on til next month . It wasn't losing air I just didn't want to risk it blowing out . Thanks for the help . Hopefully this will take care .
