I have 2007 explorer the check eng. light and wrench light came on shortly after the trans began sluggish shifting and loss of power
both eng check light and wrench light came on at same time. Shortly after the trans started almost non shift in 1 and 2 gear about the time it gets to 3rd gear it picks up power and seems to drives ok.
Go and get it scanned before any damage is done
The procedure is different for different vehicles. However, basically, a check engine light only usually deals with the EVAP system, anti- pollution component. The wrench would indicate a mechanical problem. Since it came on when the tranny began acting up I suspect the code will indicate a problem there.
