rear lift gate glass release button

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi all,

My 2007 Explorer XLT rear lift glass release button on the tailgate does not work, but the glass will release via the remote button.  Any ideas on how to diagnose/fix?  Thanks!

If it works with the remote button, the soleniod is good, so it sounds like the linkage that attaches to the handle on the door is not working. Open the window first, the open the hatch, you'll see some screws on the inside hatch panel and remove, pry on the panel around the edges to pop off and you can then access the linkage controls on the door, you will then see where you have a problem.
