Should I service my transmission oil at 133K miles even though its never been done before?

Asked by Jan 31, 2017 at 06:32 AM about the 2007 Chevrolet Impala LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Chevy Impala with 133K miles. The transmission has never been serviced. I've heard yes and no answers about changing it. I've heard that when its so far past due it could be harmful to change it.

All you need to do is change the fluid and filter if it has one, DO NOT FLUSH THE ENTIRE SYSTEM, this is where you can get into issues. Pull the plug and if you remove 5 quarts, just replace the 5 quarts that came out. You can do another fluid change in a few months.

I would do exactly as "COMETGUY61" suggested.

Yes servicing it can cause it too fail but also not servicing it can also cause failure, so it is a catch 22 at this point in time, tranny services should be performed every 30000 miles to keep your tranny happy, if you do decide to service it add 1 quart on TransX to the fluid during is will help soften the hardened seals caused by bad fluid and slowly clean the varnish build up, you should service it again in a couple of weeks, if the fluid is still dark do the treatment again and after a couple of weeks service it again and this time add a bottle of LubeGuard for GM transmissions and hope it will make it another 30000 for the next service time.
