What's the actual "Dealer" time listed to replace the Fan Shroud on a 2004 Corvette?
Replacing the fan shroud that houses the 2 cooling fans in my C5 Vette.
Dealer is giving me a bit of a run around on labor costs. My friend works at a
tech school and says "The Book" says 1.4 hrs to replace just a motor OR the
entire shroud. Does this sound correct? Dealer telling me 3-4 hours. I don't
I was going to say approx 2 hours, but then again if the dealer is backed up with other appointments and the parts are not at the dealerships's location.. excluding anything else that could be unforeseen. Plus they may not have the preferred mechanic working on this.. and other.. the new mechanic is hesitant about doing the job..
Is this the time charged for labor or time the car will be tied up? There is a difference by friend. Your tech school has no doubt what GM said is the time allowed for actual work. that is what you should pay for. If Ronny has never done this before, he will take liner than Larry who can do it in his sleep due to experience. Look for a trusted shop that works on Corvettes, they usually follow the GM guidelines for hourly charges, but the hourly rate may be lower.
