2008 ford escape cuts off

this happens once or twice a week, driving as normal, come to a stop sign or red light, car will start shaking, then turns off, it will start again as normal, will not happen for  a while, what do I need to check?

Hmm could be any number of things. Any lights on the dash gauge cluster lit up?

no flashing or extra lights come on, no out of the ordinary noises, thanks for your help, if anything more specific happens, I'll keep you posted
