Indicator self cancelling very early

Asked by Guru98TTF Jul 12, 2017 at 11:45 AM about the 2008 Jeep Patriot Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am in the UK, and the indicator (turn signal) self cancels very early - it only
takes a twitch of the steering wheel to cancel. Is this normal for the patriot?

Yes, it is normal. I have a 2008 model. It is very irritating in a car which I otherwise enjoy owning. I often resort to just holding the indicator arm down without actually clicking it into place.

Thanks for that- sorry for the delay in replying - holiday! I don't know whether to resign myself to this or try to change it. The self cancelling can be de-activated by snipping off the plastic tags on the indicator arm, but its a pretty permanent solution, and I would have to remember to cancel it myself every time. My wife's car has a defective left turn self canceller, which doesn't always cancel, and this has led to some near misses, so ...... well I'm still contemplating this. Poor design by Jeep on an otherwise great truck.
