Engine Swap

Asked by Jan 10, 2017 at 08:43 PM about the 1988 Pontiac Fiero Formula

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok, I am doing a engine swap. I have a 88
Pontiac Fiero and I want to install a corvette
LT1 engine using my fiero 5 speed manual
transmission.  My question is this, if the
corvette was using a automatic
transmission would it still work with a
manual transmission or do I need to add or
move or do something to make it work??Or
it doesn't matter?? I have the master kit for
the swap.

Apparently it is possible to put a V8 into a FIero but using a transmission designed for about 1/3 the HP that you will soon have will end only one way, badly. As far as what other parts you will need you should contact the experts that sold you the kit.

Would still work, but make sure the manual's throw out bearing is properly adjusted or it can cause a premature failure of the thrust bearing on the crank
