I have a 1985 pontiac fiero gt automatic, and it starts right up, but when I go to put it in gear I can't push the button in and pull the shifter back. Please help if you know the answer? Thanks!

I took the whole middle apart and nothing is
broken or stuck where the shifter is.

No I'm pushing the break all the way down


does the top of the knob come off
