2002 corvetter temperature gaugr

i have a 2002 corvette convertible everything was working fine i even drove it
an hour ago then when i went to start it the temp gauge goes all the way to hot
side and is pinned there  if i turn it off it goes back to zero whats going on

The sensor may be bad or the wiring to the sensor is damaged or shorted.
