Not being and electronic technician or engineer, I have this same problem an looked it up online. On You Tube it showed technician taking out the radio and soldering a wire; replacing the radio/CD player and it worked great. Don't know how much it costs to have this done vs. the cost to purchase a used perfectly working replacement radio and to have it installed.. I would first find a good place to trouble shoot the electronics of the circuit board in the radio. Hope this helps. I am doing this too. The illumination on my radio is fading away but it works just fine.
