I have a 2004 that has the same issue. It drives fine short distance and around town. Normally it occurs when im holding a steady speed not using cruise control. Its almost as if the pedal sensor has a spot that's been rubbed away over time and if you hold the pedal there too long the computer trips out and throws the car into limp mode. Ill be driving and holding speed and ill feel the car kinda jump and after that theres no power, cant accelerate, only enough gas to get off the road. and the pedal doesn't raise the rpm more than 1-300 rpms when floored after this occurs. the only way to fix the problem is to turn the car off and back on, I normally just shift to neutral, cycle the key super fast so engine doesn't stop but computer resets, and then try to match rpm to speed and drop back into drive, yes I know this is terrible for the car but it has 250,000 miles on it so at this point as long as it drives I could care less.
