Oil light

Asked by Jun 04, 2017 at 10:03 PM about the 2006 Hummer H3 4dr SUV 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 06 hummer h3 is marking the oil light.
It usually doesn't turn on until the engine has been
running a while and warmed up. I've noticed it only
comes on when I come to a complete stop and
need to accelerate again but only on take off. I let
off the accelerator and the light goes off and stays
off once I'm in second gear I suppose (it's an
automatic) I recently changed the oil. I think it's just
low oil pressure. I constantly check for oil leaks and
if the engine burns oil but nothing. The oil is there.
Could it be a faulty sensor? Perhaps the oil pump?
It's running on 5w-30 maybe thicker oil? I need to
get to the bottom of this.

More and likely a bad oil pressure switch. I would still check with a oil pressure gauge to be sure.

I have an 07 hummer and about 2 weeks ago started getting an oil pressure low alert when I had to suddenly slam on my breaks ! I just had the sensor replaced and as soon as I left the auto repair shop the alert started to sound again ! Now I will be getting more of an extensive look at the oil pump as now the alert does not stop at all no matter what the rpm ! I will post what I figure out Tuesday !

I’m taking mine in this Thursday. So far it looks like the engine is burining oil and at an insane rate! I’ll update here what they tell me. Hope this won’t cost me an arm and a leg!

I have a 2007 H3 and when the weather warms to 70 F the oil signal comes on. Last year I used 10W30 oil instead of 5W30, and it worked all last year. This spring the oil dinger went off again at idle. I'm not sure what to try next, maybe a cooler thermostat if they make them. The motor runs great otherwise. I think the problem is probably internal, sludge, or a weak oil pump. it has 135000 miles on it.

No one has even tired to fix mine yet. They all think it needs a new oil pump and that would be a large cost..

It does look like the real fix will be expensive, and extensive but I'm trying other alternatives before deciding what to do next.

My 2007 hummer h2 is currently in the shop , replacing the sensor did not work ( wasted 155$) I took it to another auto shop, a place that a bit more experienced with vehicles like ours and I have been informed that it is a bad oil pump which is going to cost me 1600$
