On a 2000 rr sport hse I don't get any spark where should I start diagnostic and dash display among other stuff now reads traction failure ,gear box failure

You can "start" by answering WHY you thought it was a good idea to buy a Rover in the first place-

Yeah I know right.........and I'm considering buying a big body bmw,Am I asking for more trdouble?

The BMW will be more reliable than a Rover- if you are buying used, make sure it is low mileage, and has receipts to prove it has been properly maintained- they are expensive to repair- the Rovers are on the short list of cars to avoid because of their real-world problems-
