Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 xtype that is throwing all kinds of codes. they scoped the catalytic
converters and found that some one had gutted the cats. Now i have to have them
replaced and the book says 8.5 hours. Does the motor need dropped to replace the cats?
Would this also destroy the O2 Sensors?

I didn't believe it at first, but the front cat replacement is listed around $500 to change and rear cat is $700. So that is in line with current labor rates and time. Plus the cost of the cats, and your looking at $3K. wow.
