1990 chevrolet lumina serpentine drive belt problem

Asked by Nov 10, 2013 at 03:28 PM about the 1990 Chevrolet Lumina 4 Dr STD Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

it makes a loud banging noise when driving

1 Answer

Pop the hood and check the belt, it may have been cracked from years of not being changed and it could have tore partially, the noise you may be hearing could be a piece of the belt constantly hitting things as it rotates. If I am correct about what you are describing it is dangerous to drive the car in this condition. My last vehicle's serpentine belt snapped partially and I continued driving it, then my car wouldn't make turns and it became very difficult to drive.
