Automatic Transmission Pops From Drive to Neutral When I Put the Peddal to the Ground

Asked by Feb 21, 2015 at 09:35 PM about the 2002 Saab 9-3 SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Basically, just like the title says, I was testing a Saab 9-3 and decided to see how the
car  got on when I put the peddal to the ground from several different (Stationary,
Cruising ~25-35 Mph, and Freeway ~70 Mph) speeds.

Each time I tried this, I found that I was redlining after an initial bit of acceleration.
Come to find out that the car had actually shifted from D to Neutral and did so reliably
under each of the above three conditions.  The only time that I didn't have this
experience was when I physically Held the shift knob in place.

I'm not sure if this would have any effect or not, but I had the "S" button on so that
Sport appeared on my HUD.

Any thoughts on this issue or what might be causing it would be greatly appreciated!

Could be many things, faulty Trans shift solenoid, low fluid, old fluid, internal transmission wear?
