How do you know if you need to replace the ECM electronic control Module?

Asked by Mar 27, 2015 at 09:13 PM about the 1995 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight Royale 4 Dr LS Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1995 oldsmobile has been stalling out while driving, mostly while driving slow or
turning corners.  Sometimes the engine light comes on sometimes it doesn;t.  Now I am
having trouble starting it.  I have had it in the shop and they have done diagnostic tests
and could not find anything wrong.  They said I need to take it ta a dealer because they
don't know what the codes are for this problem.

Find another mechanic, sounds like an easy fix. I'm sure the ECM is not to blame. Since the CEL is blinking they can pull a code or codes. Some codes are stored in memory.
