Jaguar x-Type "Engine malfunction" light

I have a 2002 Jaguar x-Type. The "Engine malfunction" light has come on and has been on for a few months. The car has been performing fine so far. I wonder what this could be indicating.

Take it to one of the retail outlets (Checker/AutoZone/PepBoys) and they should be able to scan your computer for free. This should give you some indication as to what could be going wrong with your vehicle, however, sometimes the trouble codes can be misleading.
hmmm.... a '02 x type? i sense a large repair bill in your near future.

There are four sensors, two upstream and two downstream. Replace them and ensure they are installed in the correct position. Reversing the order can trigger check engine light as the ECM will have similar readings on voltage. This is the most common problem, but exhaust leaks and incorrect fuel can also trigger the light. you can drive, but without optimum performance.
about a thousand different things can trigger a light to come on. scan for codes and do diag before you just throw parts at it.
Unfortunately,Jags are known for their problems with electrical issues. Mine pops on then off same as my airbag light but the car's engine is sound as well as the car itself. These lights are also referred to as "idiot lights" by mechanics as they can be misleading. I recommend going and getting a diagnostic ran on it as a precaution if you're unfamiliar with cars. Oh yes fuel other than premium will set light check fuel cap is not cracked or broken
To run at it's peak,preminum gas is def a requirement. I know gas prices suck but Jags are VERY particular as most luxury cars are. =) Trust me I have 6 sitting in my driveway,2 luxury,2 sleepers,2 offroaders, each one has it's own quirks,lol!!
Why so many. I love my 1until something goes wrong and there is always something wrong. If I just think about how nothing has gone wrong, a light will come on. Hence something wrong. I am addicted to the drive and feel though. She's my girl!
The engine light fault problem all seem to be like my 2002 X type Jag! Was this a fault of this year! P1647 C1155 P1647 C1155 P1000 Mechanic said poor petrol or low on petrol as after fitting sensor light was still on
