Jimmy's so im not a pro. The abs light is on is there a common problem that could be

the abs light is probley a bad or dirty sensor or one could be unpluged, you can see them at each wheel, clean them first.as the 4x4 sounds like the acuator is bad,is located under battery tray.is a $40.00 part easy to install, their are 2 bolts under passenger side fender well you will have to remove ,they hold the bracket the acuator sits in.

For the 4wheel drive to kick in, you have to put the shifter to NUETRAL, then press the button, then you can put it back in drive.

no .you can put it in 4x4 while in gear, the ones with the floor shift for 4x4 has to be in nuetral, not the electronicpush button.

I have a 96 and my four wheel drive did the same thing. Just replace the fuse and it should work fine.
