Is input shaft or solenoid pack or transaxle gasket responsible for transmission fluid leakage

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Please help. I own a 2001 T&C with 114K miles on it to date. December 2009, had
the transmission replaced and drove fine till January 2011. Noticed significant
hesitation from the transmission on cold start after a few minutes warm up,
followed by a sound similar to the vehicle in motion but stationary.  Took van in
for routine oil change and tech guy came back with a trans fluid leakage traced to
transaxle gasket. I returned to dealership for transmission replacement warranty
service. Upon inspection, they came back with external trans issues, namely, input
shaft and solenoid pack to be replaced. I'm at a crossroad between the dealership
and the oil change facility diagnosis. Fearful of dealership repair scam and or
inadequate diagnosis from the oil change shop, I wonder if this is a familiar issue
and any suggestions/recommendations before committing to any form of repair,
without getting ripped off or simply ignoring a serious problem

Its quite common for the shift solinoid pack to leak and it is external but an input shaft would be internal.unless they said input shaft speed sensor which is external and also problematic on Chrysler vehicles. Its also comman for a solinoid pack failure to be misdiagnosed as a trans pan gasket. If you are unsure about which diagnosis is correct get an independent 3rd opinion most transmission specialists will check it no charge or ask around to your friends/co-workers and see who they deal with.If the same shop name comes up often chances are they are a honest shop.
