I am thinking of buying a RS with a3.1L, 5 speed in it. I want to know if the trans will match up to the 350 engines?

the trans itself will work, might have to change bellhousing.

I would consider a different tranny. GM wouldn't match up the 350 with the five speed until 1993. The T56 is a Great tranny, especially if your building a street/strip, but you also can put a T10 or a M21-M22 Rock-Crusher. If you Are bent on the T5, Make sure that the tranny and Clutch can handle the Hp, and you should make sure you have the right gears in the rear...

the old T-5 is not even worth its weight in metal haha i had a T-5 hooked up to a 350 zz4 and it slowly fell apart...its only rated to 265 torque out of the box and has the worst feeling shift...i just put a T-56 in about a week ago and lemme tell ya the difference is night and day...not to mention mines rated to 800 torque now, so i dont have to worry about it falling apart when i add power to it

I put in the new Tremac 5 speed. Still working on the shifting, but it is a great addition. I never had any problems with my old T-5, just rebuilt it after 325K miles on it when I had the engine out for S&Gs. I then bought the 5 speed. Quicker out the hole, 1700 rpm at 70. Love it. Doubled my gas mileage and the ice cream cones don't melt before getting home.

3.1 has a different bellhousing bolt pattern. Unless the bellhousing is removable then no.

Yes it will work if the flywheel cover will bolt up to the transmission and the transmission shaft fits into the engine flywheel. GM usually makes parts that will interchange. Best to ask a Chevy dealer in parts if the swap from the model Camaro will go too the engine in the 80 Corvette. If it bolts up, make sure the trans shaft is the correct one for the Corvette.
