I just found out my Audi 2005 A4 with only 68000 miles needs timing chains...$8200. I've always taken care of it. Is this normal?
For that price they should pull the motor, rebuilt it, plate it in gold, and reinstall it. 68K seems far too soon to be replacing timing chains, unless someone has been beating on that motor (doing a little racing on the side?) Methinks you need a second opinion or two.
N0, NOT normal. Whomever quoted you $8200 is trying to take you for a fool. The timing chain(s) will last 3X that and if they say that is the cost that shop needs to be put out of business for attempted robbery
Yeah that is an insane amount of money for that repair. It isn't unheard of in the 2.0t A4 though, I've seen a good amount of people who have had the tensioner fail and then you have major issues. Just out of curiosity why do they want to replace it? Is it making noise?
