A short in electrical system

Asked by Guru6JNRJ Apr 09, 2020 at 07:16 PM about the 2007 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I changed out the alternator and & bumped
the positive against a ground, it sparked.
Problem is ,when I turned the key on
dashboard lights lite up but nothing else.
When I jumped the positive lead from battery
to fuse box screw with a piece of wire and
turn the key it starts. I’ve checked the fuses
but can’t get those long blue ones out to
check them. What got shorted please, thank
you

Look under hood for a large Fuse Relay Box. Under the cover...there might be a legend identifing fuses. Is there a ALT fuse indicated? Use a 12 volt Test Light to check that fuse. Get back with results.

You have blown the main fuse which is same like this. It is bolted tight under the fuse box. You need to disassemble the fuse box to uninstall and install the main fuse. This is usually 100amp to 120amp. You have just fried it. CNP
