I just bought a 1994 chevy k1500 z71. Why do the rear struts have springs on them? It also still has leaf springs

If you have leaf springs then you do not have struts, someone put a coil over kit on the shocks to increase load capacity, or the rear springs are shot and sag if it weren't for the coil overs.
