My 98 C/K 1500 5.7 extremely hard to start

Asked by Jan 08, 2017 at 03:32 PM about the 1998 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado Extended Cab LB RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck is taking an extremely long time to start up,
cranking for about 20-30 minutes until it fires. Engine is
getting fuel. It will not fire on starting fluid. It was reading a
random multiple misfire, map sensor low voltage, cat1&2
low efficiency. I replaced the fuel pump, fuel injectors, map
sensor. All codes went away and it ran fine for a week.
Then right back to the same issue. It has a spark but the
timing is not correct when it sits for more than 24 hours.
Has to crank until battery is almost dead then it starts
sometimes.

Do you get a sync failure code? this sounds like the cam and crank sensor signals are getting a misread, You may have to have the system live data scanned when it is cold to locate the problem.
