My 1998 K1500 starts, runs fine, until you shut it off, then tanes for ever to restart

Stuck open egr valve or stuck open pcv valve can cause this sort of issue.

Would bad computer cause this and, would one from a 95 work for a try?

It might but honestly if it was a computer issue I feel you would have other drivability issues. But with you stating it starts and runs fine till you shut it off I am leaning more to an egr stuck open issue. As truck sets and cools egr closes and it will start again because the fuel air mixture is back like its suppose to be.

Is check engine light on? If so what are the codes?

no ck engine light. does show 02senser code when tested

Don't think that would cause a turn over no crank issue like you are having. Bad egr valves don't always thro a code. The reason I stuck on the egr issue is because I not to long ago had the same problem with my 07 dodge 1500. Although it finally did thro an egr code and I replaced it. All has been good since then. Before that happened to me the egr was the last thing on the list of things I was looking into.

hey I'm back looking for more help First I want to say thanks to dandyoun. I actually thought you advice was spot on but, didn't cure it . first thing this morning I pulled the egr, cleaned it put it back, cked it. It seemed to ck out fine I started up, run it about 20mins. turned off, started right up run it 2 or 3mi. off started right up again again thought we had it about 5 times. then boom same thing. very puzzeling todon703; we cked timing when we changed all the wires & plugs

Did you also check the pcv valve? If it's sticking open it can possibly cause the same issue.
