Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Crankshaft will not turn

6 Answers

okay... Are you trying to crank it with the starter or by hand? Best way to check for a seized motor is to remove spark plugs, put a breaker bar on the crank and turn. If it doesn't, you have yourself a seized motor.

With the starter an it won`t move it just keeps clicking

Could also mean that your starter is toast. A breaker bar on the vibration damper is the best way to turn an engine over by hand, just make sure the key is turned off and in your pocket to prevent you from becoming a statistic.

Yeah that sounds more like a starter issue than a crank issue. The way you framed the question it sounded like you were rebuilding a motor and couldn't get the crank to turn. In your case clicking could just mean the battery is low. Try starting it with a boost.

I tried the boost an it still clicks but tha crankshaft still won't move

Its the starter
