Build My Buick LeSabre

Asked by Jun 20, 2016 at 02:48 AM about the 2002 Buick LeSabre Limited Sedan FWD

Question type: Car Customization

Let me start out with, I don't know much
about cars. My hubby is a certified diesel
mechanic & owns a row company, so he
does close to all of the upkeep/work on all
of our vehicles, and I like to learn about
this stuff even though I'm not very good at
it at all. We have some nicer vehicles that
we suped up a bit, but I'm really interested
in building my 2002 Buick LeSabre

I've got the regular 3800 v6. I've done
some reading on cold air intakes & what
not, but there doesn't seem like there's
much I can do to it? There's another post
on here about a similar subject, but there
was a lot of hate on it. Hoping for different

We thought it would be fun to build, kind of
like a deeper, nonsense but fun, hands-on
learning experience for me. Ideas?

You really can't do much with the 3800 without taking it totally out of the car, then you beef it up to handle say a supercharger with more boost than a factory setup, you might also, want to look into a different tranny, possibly something from B&M transmissions, now add your cold air system and open up.the exhaust with full flow converters and mufflers, then move onto a programmer, something like Superchips or Bully Dog so you can really tune in the electronics with all the new speed stuff. Then after you have it the way you want don't forget about the tires, you will need something with a good speed and traction rating. HTH

As noted above, there was a 3800 built with a supercharger. It was offered in the PA Ultra and Regal GS but never in the LeSabre, I suspect it would be a pretty easy swap but you should use the transmission from the supercharged engine as it is would also need the ECM from the supercharged engine. At the same time you might want to replace the front suspension bushing (we don't know the mileage on your LeSabre) as the car is now 14 years old and with more power, you want the suspension to be crisp.
