Engine stalls

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car occasionally dies. I was told it was the crank
position sensor but wouldn't the car not run at all?

Sometimes sensors can work intermitenly but doesn't always mean this sensor. I had my van break down on me, snowy, cold, and busy day, away from home. Had it towed and told mechanic just take care of it. That's what he replaced and it started, week later same condition. Come to find out it was something else. Lot of guys just replace, just blaming that or trying easy process of elimination only to find out later it wasn't that. No codes? My suggestion is try testing other areas to get a better idea if in fact that's it. first. But its not to expensive to go ahead and try. coming up?

Yes check engine light is on but not sure yet of what codes. This is my sisters car she had a tune up done $500 later the car dies twice a day. Im a diesel tech not gas

Have your check engine light scanned. It will tell you which codes are present. Bad Camshaft position sensors and crankshaft position sensors are extremely common on the GM 3100, 3400, & 3800 engines.

Go to auto parts store many read and interpret codes for free.
