my check engine lights keep coming on and
turning it self off before i can have it looked at

Code should be stored in computer if battery has not been disconnected.

also i smell gas through out the car

Probably due to a misfire, scan for the car for the codes. A local auto parts store will do it for free. Post the 4 digit codes back here.

Have checked by mechanic ASAP. Gas smell can lead to fire or explosion.
