Look at the top of the emergency brake pedal near the bracket. You'll see a push button type of switch on the bracket with a single wire on it. With the parking brake released the push button will be pushed in, or upwards. Clean the area around the switch. Basically what happens when you set the parking brake is the switch is released and contacts the metal bracket. This connects the wire that's attached to the switch to ground and makes the brake warning light on the dash come on. After years of nonuse dust accumulates on the bracket and creates a poor connection. Hope that helps! Jim
