how do you remove the brake drums on a 2001 buick century

unable to remove drums is there an adjustment screw that needs to back out

Yes. On the backing plate you'll see an oblong rubber plug. Remove it. You can then use a flat blade screwdriver to turn the starwheel adjuster. This will pull the brake shoes in and you can then pull the drum straight off. HTH. -Jim
