Whining noise at high speeds
I have a 2004 Chrysler Town and Country van with 71,000 miles on it. At speeds starting at 60mph on the interstate, I hear a whine like a turbine. When I let off the gas, it stops. Is this normal, or am I looking at an issue starting.
if it is just a slight whine noise and you said when you let off the gas it goes away it could be normal.
The noise you describe is not normal if it wasn't there the day you bought the car. I had a similar noise in my Chrysler 300C. After several weeks of trying to figure out where it was coming from, I finally took it to the Pep Boys shop around the corner. I suspected it was bearing going out on either the idler pulley (belt tensioner), the power steering pump or the alternator. I doubted that the water pump would make a noise like that. They determined within minutes it was the bearing on the alternator, gave me a quote to replace it (less than half what the dealership would charge) and had it done in less than an hour. Problem solved, no more noise. Oh yes, it was a genuine Chrysler refurbished alternator with a lifetime warranty. Thanks Pep Boys!
