Engine light is on
The engine light was on for about 6 monthes and then went off for about a week and then it came back on. The car run ok with the light on. A mechanic wanted $80 jus to test the car to find out why the light was on. Do you have any idea why the light is on?
The light could be on for literally hundreds of different reasons, and unfortunately the easiest way for you to find out what the issue is, is to have a mechanic hook it up to a computer and run a diagnostics check and tell you what is wrong. It's better that you figure out what it wrong now rather than later in case its something important. You can get it checked at an Autozone too, it may be cheaper than a mechanic.
Im having the same problem with my car and i think it may be the o-ring on the gas cap that is causing the light to go on
my 2013 Chrysler T&C check engine light came on about a week ago. a meineke place checked it with the scan and said it was an exhaust problem, likely from the gas cap not being tight enough when I got gas a few days earlier. they turned off the light, I tightened the gas cap and it was fine for three days, then came on again. I took it to the Chrysler dealer, they scanned and charged more than $300 beyond the warranty because they said it was a failed leak detector (under warranty but with a big deductible) and needed a filter (which wasn't under warranty). they also wouldn't pay for the car rental under warranty because they said it wasn't more than 4 hours labor (though they kept it all day!). then now, four days later, the light is back on. have to take it back in after work today. this so sucks! I used to like Chrysler products! no more!!!
