How can I tell if my Transmission is bad? 07 Grand Prix . I don't know much about cars.

the way you can tell if the transmission is bad is if a gear is sliping while driving. If the transmission will not go into gear and if the transmission will not move while. sometimes when you think the transmission is bad it's really another component that is possibly causing the problem but if the gear is slipping in an automatic transmission then the transmission would need to be replaced. especially if the transmission fluid is as black as motor oil

If you don't know much about cars and if you suspect there is a problem with the transmission, or even if it simply hasn't been serviced in a very long time, the best thing you can do is take it to a reputable transmission shop and have it serviced and evaluated. A few dollars spent on preventative maintenance will pay huge dividends in peace of mind motoring and the prevention of a very expensive transmission failure.
