2007 Grand Prix Sensor

I have a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8L V6 engine. Ever since I
got it, this sensor has been sitting next to the battery and I have
no idea what it's for. It's connected to some wiring that goes
into the fuse box under the hood, but it has no connections
going the other way. Any idea what it is? It's really bothering
me.
