Why is my thermostat saying the car is hot, but the motor is cold to the touch?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
We replaced the thermostat and the car is
still saying that it is hot. When I read that it
could be the wiring, I noticed that the light
for my daytime running lights isn't showing
up at all on my dash. My dad knows a lot
about cars, could he fix the wiring by
himself or do I need to take her to the
garage?

Sounds like the wiring from the sending unit on the engine is damaged and touching something metal. Unplug the sending unit and start the engine. If the dash gauge now reads cold that's the problem. Carefully inspect the wiring. If it looks ok replace the sending unit. It may be shorted internally. HTH. -Jim
