2006 Subaru Legacy turbo

Asked by Mary Sep 15, 2018 at 06:04 PM about the 2006 Subaru Outback 2.5 XT Limited Wagon AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am looking at a 2006 Subaru Legacy Outback 2.5XT limited to buy. It has
96,000 miles.  I just found out that this has a turbo engine and 18 months ago
he had  work done. I am in the process of finding out what exactly he had
repaired/replaced. I am nervous now thinking of buying this model...any input
as to weather or not this would be a wise purchase?/

I guess it depends on what was done and what the price is...

XT = Turbo. I would have a mechanic check it out before buying. Then check the price to make sure you do not overpay. Let us know what was done to the car before you buy!

SO..Too many red flags...owner never got back to me with details of the engine repair. I don't think this one is for me. But there is another I am looking at....any thoughts on this one? 2008 Subaru Outback PZEV Wagon, 138K miles. list of things he has done: 2018- new tires 2017- new battery Timing belt , water pump, head gaskets done at 97,000 miles (2012) asking 4900. This one is letting me take it to my mechanic...anything I should in particular get looked at?

Condition is everything on a used car.... I don't know where you live, but, here in Southern California we don't get rust.... It's important. Ask about the shocks/struts, great on the timing belt, but, did they put in a new tensioner and pulley assembly as well? Also, did they change out the radiator fluid completely and put in a new OEM Subaru thermostat? I know these are usually solid, but, I had all of this done on my car recently. You know what they say about an ounce of prevention.. I just had all of my shocks, struts and spark plugs replaced today and I have 86,000 miles on my 2010 Subaru Limited 2.5. Ask questions of the mechanic.... you never know until you ask these probing questions.. Good luck.
