96 s10 blazer v6 vortec Tbi won't start
I sprayed starting fluid in the air plenum, motor started then shut off like it was
starving for fuel.....does this motor require 60 psi fuel pressure to start? I have
been told it would not start with even 55psi fuel pressure? Is thiS true for this
Your test tells me its NOT, receiving fuel. CHECK the fuel pump and the fuel pressure The old 1996 TBI system needs a min of 50lb to start.. of fuel pressure. 60-66 is what it likes.
Thanks for you help
You definitely have a fuel issue. To determine what is the problem, you will need a fuel pressure gauge to hook up on the Schrader valve. Turn your key on, off until fuel pressure builds up to its highest point. Fuel pressure should be 56 to 63 lbs. You start getting under 56 lbs. fuel pressure the engine will be hard to start until not at all. More fuel pressure is fine. Then with the key in the off position, watch the fuel pressure gauge. It should not drop more than 5 lbs in 3 minutes. If it does then the spider injection assembly would need replacing.
