Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Pontiac Torrent 2007
I left key in "on" position and next day found battery dead.

I recharged battery, put it in, and...

nothing worked except some lights on dashboard, radio, sweepers and fan.
Everything else does not work, engine does not start.
There is a message on screen "Visit service soon".
Key is still locked, transmission in "P" position and I could not change it.

What happened and is it curable?

Short circuit in the BCM (Body Control Module). Brought car to GM dealer service. They spent 3,5 hours to find the cause = $300 New BCM with 12/12 warranty = $350

I have a 2007 Torrent and it cost me $700 because it needed a new computer. Apparently, this auto has multiple computers. The key still gets stuck in the ignition from time to time. What a piece of SHIT this auto is. I've had so many problems with plastic pieces breaking off, and shame on you GM motors. This is why Americans don't trust the reliability or the durability of these cars/trucks. Step it up so that our autos last for more than 5 years without mechanical or plastic/interior failure!!!!!

May be this is a late answer. The GM should have told you how to take out the stick key from the ignition. There is a solenoid switch below the key hidden by the body plastic. If you remove the plastic below the steering wheel you will see a solenoid switch. And pressing the this switch the key is free. My brother made a one inch hole in the body plastic so that when the key is stuck I can open it by accessing the solenoid switch to press the release button. 40% of the time it gets stuck so I access the switch through the hole and it always work. Battery has to be connected.
