07 Suburban (5.3) radical fluctuation in oil pressure

Asked by Jon12525 Dec 30, 2013 at 08:59 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 LT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Oil pressure will fluctuate rapidly between 20 psi and 60 psi.   Needle will fall to near zero triggering the message center warning system to shut engine down immediately do to low oil pressure.   Is this typical of a faulty sending unit or are the problems deeper than this ?  This vehicle has also been in the Oil consumption program for the past three years and recently written off as normal ( 1 qt in 1000 mi ) Vehicle now has 108,000 mi.

Matt.. currently having this issue myself. What did you find out? I changed OP pressure sensor and replaced the in-line screen to no avail.

I just had the same thing happen to my 2007 Suburban with 140K miles on it. I've got other issues, but that one appeared to be sludge from the oil pan getting sucked up into the screen leading to the pump. Change your oil a few times before you spend a ton of money on pumps and sensors.
