My 2007 FORD RANGER FX4 4 DOOR WITH MANUEL TRANSMISION, HAS A LOUD AUDIBLE METAL CLUNK WHEN SHIFTING GEARS AND ALSO THE GEARSHIFT WENT ERRATIC THE OTHER DAY, LIKE THE TRANSMISION WAS GOING TO FALL OUT....COULD IT BE THAT THE DIFFERENTIAL IS TOO SHORT?

It sounds like you might have missed a gear and let the clutch out too soon. If the truck is stock, I don't see how it could be the diff.

THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWER, HOWEVER----I DIDN'T MISS ANY GEARS.... I HAD A MECHANIC DRIVE IT AND HE ALSO HEARD AND FELT THE LOUD CLUNK WHEN SHIFTING GEARS...I AM TAKING IT IN TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER HERE TOMORROW AND THEY ARE GOING TO PUT THE TRUCK UP ON THE HOIST AND HAVE A LOOK TO SEE WHAT IS CAUSING THE AWFULL NOISE....
