could just be the base gasket..if diaphram is broken replace it....

This is a common GM problem. Since Saturn was a GM captive I'm sure this concerns you. Try this. Unplug the EGR valve. Now, using a scan tool, clear the computer. Turn the ignition off and unhook the scan tool. Plug the EGR valve back in. Start the car and go for a drive. If, within a few days the check engine light does not come back on, you're all set. The problem here is that the computer measures the resistance value of the EGR valve to determine if it's closed. Over time the resistance value of a used EGR valve changes and the computer "thinks" it's stuck open. If it were stuck open you'd know it. Rough idle, stalling, and very hard starting are all symptoms of a stuck open EGR valve. If you decide to replace it, you'll need to follow the procedure above as well. What this procedure does is allows the computer to learn what the closed resistance value of the EGR valve is. Once it does, you should be ok. If it continues to give you trouble, the PCM (Computer) will need to be flashed (programmed) with updated software to solve this problem. HTH. -Jim
